My name is Beth Ramirez, and I have my commercial pilots license. I am currently working on my multi and CFI. I am the founder of Women with Wings, an organization that supports and encourages female pilots across the nation! When I am not flying a plane, I enjoy painting and competing in pageants.
WHAT GOT YOU INTERESTED IN AVIATION?
My dad is a first officer for Southwest Airlines. Before that, he flew C-130s as a pilot for the Marines.
I always looked up to him for following his lifetime goals. Before becoming an Aviation Sciences Major, I was an Art Major. Although I love painting, I longed for a career that would keep me on edge daily! My dad always said, “if you find a job you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.”
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST FLIGHT LIKE?
I actually felt sick to my stomach! Didn’t eat enough that day! It was a great first flight other than that! I remember just being terrified of taking off, but boy did I feel cool! I was definitely hooked from then on, I knew this was the career choice for me.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT FLYING?
Personally, flying as a whole gives me a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. I enjoy landing and doing approaches the most! I’m learning how to instruct, and I’m already getting so excited for that! I make videos on my “Women with Wings” page to help myself improve on instructing!
WHAT’S THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF FLYING?
Staying focused, as much as I love studying. Like most students, staying focused can be challenging, I have a mind that is constantly is running 100 miles an hour.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to pursue aviation?
I think my best advice to someone wanting to pursue aviation, is get all the information you can because there are different ways to obtain your license. Being open to different options will help you figure out what is best for you! Also find a group of motivated aviators to help you stay focused and excited about aviation!
WHAT are your goals for aviation?
I have a few. I would really like Women with Wings to grow as a support group for female pilots in different states. I also a would like to one day become an airline pilot for Southwest like my dad! I have a crazy dream about aerobatics. I hope one day I can do tricks and become a performer in the air!
